CYCD (2012) for Microsoft Flight Simulators FS9 and FSX and Lockheed Martin's Prepar3D portrays the Nanaimo (British Columbia, Canada) Airport (CYCD) and surrounding area.

1.	FEATURES

CYCD features:

* an airport definition (AFCAD) based on high-resolution aerial photos that:
   * accurately places all runways and taxiways,
   * displays realistic taxiway and apron markings,
   * drive-through parking for all AI,

* custom airfield lighting,

* accurate taxiway and apron signage,

* low-FPS-impact, multi-LOD, ground-hugging perimeter fencing (8 high chain link with bent top, and

* a selection of static aircraft and operating AI.

Generally, CYCD (2012) Version 3.00 is visually identical to its predecessor. But the new version has been updated to be (to the extent possible) fully compatible with Prepar3D Version 2. As well, it has been re-developed using ADE_GP to replace all the ground-poly objects and AFLT to generate all the custom lighting - including the recently updated approach lighting for Rwy 16. So, FPS should also be somewhat improved. This version of CYCD also incorporates the five night approach beacons to the south.

The buildings and most other objects near the airport in CYCD (2012) are taken directly from Ken Peter's earlier FS9 release of CYCD (which was based on the stock airport with its - now - shorter runway). This was done with Ken's consent and assistance. While Ken included some extra objects in his FSX release, I noticed severe flickering problems on my system, so elected not to include them. As an option, CYCD (2012) for FS9 also includes the Harmac Mill at Duke Point and some downtown buildings thanks to Lars Hoeyer (used with Lars' consent).

2. COMPATIBILITY

CYCD is fully compatible (once the necessary compatibility files are configured) with:

  * Joel Gill's BC Roads (FS9 only)
  * ORBX FTX NA Blue USA Canada Pacific Northwest,
  * Ultimate Terrain Canada/Alaska for FS9 and Ultimate Terrain X - Canada for FSX, and
  * FS genesis Vancouver Island mesh (FS9 only)

3.	INSTALLATION

Automatic Installation - CYCD (2012) includes an installer. This installer is a Microsoft NET.Framework 3.5 application. If NET.Framework is not already installed on your computer, the redistributable can be downloaded from the Microsoft website at no charge.

If you are upgrading from an earlier installation of CYCD, the installer will save and re-load any AI traffic files it finds in the CYCD\scenery folder.

Installation of CYCD (2012) is performed as follows.

(a)	Unzip the file CYCD_vnn.zip to a temporary older (folders option enabled). DO NOT UNZIP TO THE INSTALLATION FOLDER and DO NOT REMOVE ANY FILES FROM THE TEMPORARY FOLDER.

(b)	Run (double-click on) "Installer.exe" in the temporary folder. An installation control dialog will appear. (Vista users must have and, depending on circumstances, others may require, administrator privileges when running the installer. If you need, but do not have, administrator privileges, the installer will complain when you attempt to install. To run the installer with administrator privileges, right-click on Installer.exe, select Run As and select administrator.)

(c)	Select the installation parameters (details are included in the User Manual) and click Install button. The installer will ask you to confirm the installation folders and compatibility selections, upon which it will install and configure CYCD (2012) accordingly. If installation is to a folder containing an earlier version of CYCD, that earlier version will be overwritten. If you retain an earlier version of CYCD by installing CYCD (2012) to another folder, ensure only one of them is enabled at a time in your Scenery Library.

(d)	Should you change your mind about an installation option or wish to change the installation mode, simply select the desired new option(s) and click the Install button again. When finished, close the dialog. At your direction (checkbox), all the temporary files will be permanently deleted upon completion.

For those users who need further instructions or who choose not to use the installer, a fuller installation installation procedure is detailed in the User Manual.

4. SCENERY LIBRARY

Include in your Scenery Library an enabled entry for the folder CYCD (2012)\CYCD. (The installer will do this for you.)

The CYCD Scenery Library entry must be above (higher priority) those for BC Roads, Ultimate Terrain and ORBX FTX NW. If you have other add-ons that affect the CYCD area, their position in the Scenery Library relative to CYCD will depend on what they do. Please refer their documentation. In general, unless they are intended to affect CYCD specifically, they should be of lower priority than, i.e., be below, CYCD.

5.	SUPPORT

CYCD is freeware. Hence, support will be limited. Nonetheless, I would like to be made aware of any problems you discover in CYCD and will make reasonable effort to respond. As well, I welcome your comments suggestions for improvements and, where warranted, your criticisms.

The website http://stuff4fs.com is the primary mechanism for delivering support for CYCD. Among other things, it documents known problems with the most current release and, where available, provides workarounds and patches. Please check the site before reporting any problems or suggesting new features.

5.	ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Thanks (in no particular order) to Luis Sa for SBuilder and SBuilderX, Jon Masterson for ADE, Martin Wright for DTXBmp, Arno Gerretsen for the animated windsocks and Richard Ludowise for TCalc and - all of which were used in the development of CYCD and, once again, Ken Peters and Lars Hoeyer.
As well, I wish to give credit to the authors of the objects used in CYCD (2012) - and in Ken's earlier version of CYCD.

* GSE API Macro Set by Tom Burnett (tug, cargo loader and baggage carts).
* Lights and cargo crates by Frank Betts
* Airport Ramp light by Matt C. Johnson

Finally thanks to Mike Stone for his model of the Consolidated PBY-6A Catalina and to Henry William for the repaint used.
Enjoy,
